Abir Abrar (born 1985) is an Indian stage, film,[1][2] and television actress. She is active in theater and television and recently made her film debut in the Ashutosh Gowarikar filmShe received her acting training from Daisy Irani at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy, and through a theatre workshop at Ek Jute. She is also well versed in Kathak and Hindustani classical music. She is the niece of Kumkum, a popular film actor of 1950s and 1960s.She played Juliet in the Nadira Babbar production of Romeo and Juliet directed by Atul Tiwari, and the lead Razaia Sajjad Zaheer in the play Roshnai ka Safar under direction of Nadira Babbar. She was also in Sone ki Machli,[6][7] and another Babbar directed play, Pencil se Brush Tak, based on the life of artist M. F. Hussain.[1] She remains actively associated with the 'Ek Jut' theatre company.She played the central character in the 2006 television documentary Reflections in a Mirror. The experimental film is based on the turmoil of human emotions and revolves around the trials and tribulations of a person seeking her own true identity.Her first behind the scenes endeavor as an Assistant Director was Ramaa: The Saviour (2008).[8] She made her screen debut as the character Bakshi Banu Begam, the sister of Akbar (Hritik Roshan), in the Ashutosh Gowarikar film Jodhaa Akbar.[Chandra Lakshman was born into a Tamil brahmin family in Chennai, where she also did her schooling and graduation.[1] A trained bharatanatyam dancer, she was doing her hotel management training, when director Santhosh saw her and decided to cast her in his film Manasellam.[1]
She made her acting debut with the 2002 Tamil film Manasellam, enacting the sister character of the film's lead actor Srikanth. Her performance in the film made possible her entry into the Malayalam film industry, landing the lead female role in the action thriller Stop Violence (2002) alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran.[1] Subsequently, she starred in a number of supporting roles in Malayalam-language films like Chakram, Balram vs. Taradas and Khaki.[1]
She, however, shot into limelight through her appearances in TV series.[1] She first appeared in the series Swantham, in which she essayed the role of Sandra Nellikadan, a villainous character, which was highly appreciated by critics and made her a household name.[1][2][3] She then starred in series like Devi,enacting a multi-dimensional character, Stree, playing a homely character and Jwalayayi alongside Nedumudi Venu, playing also a villainous character.[1] For her portrayal of Rini Chandrasekhar in Megham, she also received rave reviews and several awards.[2] In Tamil, she rose to fame after her performance as Ganga, again a character with negative shades, in the famous Kolangal-series, in which she starred alongside Devayani. She is also well known for her performance as Divya and Akhila in the popular series Kadhalikka Neramillai and Vasantham, respectively.Ghaani appeared in many advertisements like Big Bazar Badal Dalo, Cadbury Dairy Milk, Star Plus on Mobile etc. She has done over 150 advertisements. She played the role of Ragini Juneja in the Disney Channel fiction series Kya Mast Hai Life. She also has acted in the 2005 film The Hangman where she played the role of Gauri opposite Shreyas Talpade. Currently there are rumors that she is dating her Kya Mast Hai Life co-star Shaheer Sheikh, which she has denied.
