Karnataka who acted mainly in Kannada and Telugu films and also in many Tamil, Malayalam and Bollywood movies. She was much sought-after actress in the 1990s and acted in more than 100 films, most of them in Telugu.[1] She produced movies in the later phase of her career and won the Silver Lotus Award for her film Dweepa. She also received the Filmfare Awards six times for her acting performances. Soundarya died in a plane crash while campaigning for a political party near Bangalore in 2004.Soundarya was the daughter of Kannada film producer and writer K. S. Satyanarayan. She was born in Mulbagal and raised in Bangalore.[1] She made her debut while in her first year of MBBS when she was offered a role by a friend of her father's in the Kannada film Gandharva (1992). Her first Telugu film was 'Manavarali Pelli' (1992). She discontinued her studies after Ammoru (1995).She acted in around 90 Telugu films, such as Pavithrabandham, Pelliichesukundam with Venkatesh, found to be a popular pair. Annaya, Chudalani undhi with Chiranjeevi and others like Nagarjuna,balakrishna, Srikanth, Rajendraprasad, Jagapathibabu, Krishna,vineeth, abbas, prabu deva, vikram mohan babu, arjun saikumar, vinod kumar, j d charavarthi etc. She acted in several female-oriented roles like Thommidi nelalu, Arundhathi, Maa inti adapaduchu, etc. Directors like Ragavendra rao, S.V.Krishna Reddy, Kodi Ramakrishna, Kranthi Kumar gave her lead roles.She moved on to Telugu films, where she achieved greater popularity and success.[2]

Soundarya acted in one Hindi film, Sooryavansham. She was in Tamil films, such as Arunachalam and Padayappa alongside Rajinikanth, Kaadhala Kaadhala alongside Kamal Haasan and others.
She produced and acted in the Kannada film Dweepa which won her many awards. Unfortunately, the last film in her career was the Kannada film Apthamitra, a run away hit with Southern Super Star Dr. Vishnuvardhan. The film was a box-office hit and ran successfully for one whole year in the theaters. This film also won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress posthumously in 2004.[3]
She performed in Malayalam movies opposite Jayaram and Mohanlal too.
Her Kannada film Dweepa directed by Girish Kasaravalli won many awards. Soundarya not only acted in the film, but also produced the movie. As a producer she won her the 49th Golden Lotus award in 2001, which is given for best film of the year.[4][5] She also won the Karnataka state award for Best Actress for her brilliant performance and the best film award as a producer. The film also won the Karnataka state award for the best Cinematography, and was featured in five international film festivals.[6][7]
She bagged seven Filmfare awards and three Nandhi awards from the government of Andhra Pradesh.
She was compared to great actress Savithri in her acting. She was one of the finest actresses who believed in acting and not showing skin (glamor). In an interview with veteran actor Akkineni Nageshswara rao said that if old blockbuster movie Mayabazar is to be remade nowadays means, For the role of savithri he sugessted soundarya would suits the best as sasirekha.
Soundarya was offered the role of Draupadi in the remake of Narthanashala. Soundarya along with Balakrishna started shooting, but the film got shelved for financial reasons; the actress died before shooting continued.Soundarya was born in the village of Ashtagrama, Gangigunte, Mulabagal taluk, Kolar. She married her maternal uncle's son and childhood friend, software engineer G. S. Raghu, on 27 April 2003. She planned on promoting public welfare. Her husband and sister-in-law founded the Amara Soundarya Social and Educational Trust [ASSET]. Soundarya maintained an orphanage in Bangalore. She donated money to numerous educational institutions during her lifetime.Soundarya died on April 17, 2004, in a chopper crash near Bangalore, when the plane she was traveling in caught fire immediately after take-off. The plane, a Cessna 180, chartered by Agni Aviation, left Jakkur Airfield at 11:05 AM. Shortly after take-off the plane turned left, plunged and crashed in an open field about 500 m from the airport. She was on her way to Andhra Pradesh to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party for the coming elections. Her brother, Amarnath, a producer of Kannada films, also died in the accident. She was awarded the Karnataka State Award posthumously for her Kannada super hit film and her last film Apthamithra, which was received by her mother.South Indian film and television actress. She is one of the most established actresses in the South Indian film industry. In addition to acting, Meena is also a top model, singer, dancer, TV host and occasional dubbing artiste.Meena was born in Chennai as the daughter to a Tamil father Durairaj and a Malayali mother Raj Mallika. She was enrolled in Vidyodhya schools in Chennai. Because of her busy acting schedule she had to discontinue schooling in the 8th standard, later taking up private coaching and completing the 10th standard. She went on to get her MA in History from the University of Madras through the open university system in 2006.[3] Meena is a trained Bharathanatyam dancer and speaks six languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and English.
Her mother has played a pivotal role in shaping her career and acted as her guide advisor. Meena has always credited her mother for standing behind her as pillar of strength. When Meena's make-up artist failed to turn up at a remote village in Kakinada during the shooting of Bobbili Simham in 1994, her co-star Roja Selvamani did her hairstyling, beginning their friendship. Other best friends are actress Sanghavi, Sridevi Vijaykumar,Maheswari and Devayani.[citation needed]
Meena married Vidyasagar on July 12, 2009 at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Andhra Pradesh. Vidyasagar is a Bangalore-based Software Engineer.[4] Meena gave birth to a daughter Nainika on 1 January 2011 at 11.30am in Chennai.Meena started her career in 1982 as a child artist in the film Nenjangal, starring Dr. Sivaji Ganesan in the lead role, after Ganesan saw her at a birthday party.[3] She says of Ganesan that "I feel extremely proud to have been discovered by the legend".[3] Since then, she has appeared in over 45 films as a child artiste.She made her debut in Telugu beside the legend Akkineni Nageswara Rao in Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu.She made her debut in Tamil in Oru Pudiya Kadhai, and also stars in Telugu and Kannada films. Her first role in Malayalam that gained attention was in Santhwanam. Meena has expressed a wish to do more films in Malayalam.[3] She says of her transition from being a child star to being a heroine that "Memories as a child are really fabulous and I still cherish them. And it is still more special as that phase is over. Now, I am enjoying my stint as a heroine."[3]
She has played the role of leading heroines in Telugu and Tamil films since the early 90s, often playing characters without negativity or grey shades. She has generally avoided glamorous roles though she has acted in a few like Maaman Magal in Tamil opposite Sathyaraj and some movies with Ravichandran in Kannada. In the Kannada remake of Autograph, she reprised Sneha's role of Divya.
She has acted with Nandamuri Balakrishna, Vishnuvardhan, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Ravichandran, Kamal Haasan, Mammootty, Vijayakanth, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh.Ajith Kumar, Prabhu Deva, Sarathkumar, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi, Prashanth, Sudeep, Raviteja, eventually herself becoming a star. She had great hits with films like Bobbili Simham, Muthu, Mutamestri, Yejaman, Veera and Avvai Shanmughi . She also made a special appearance in Shahjahan and played a role along with Surya in Periyanna. She acted opposite Vikram in Kadhaleesham. Meena has acted both as a child and as an adult opposite Rajnikanth. She has acted with almost all leading actors in South India. Following the release of Muthu in Japan and its commercial success, Meena's popularity rose in Japan.[citation needed] A role in Kadha Parayumbol and in its Tamil and Telugu remakes, Kuselan and Kathanayakudu respectively, were well received by audiences. Meena has expressed regret about Kuselan, after her part was overshadowed.[6]
Meena has said that her own favorite roles were in Bharathi Kannamma and Shock in Tamil, Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu in Telugu, Santhwanam in Malayalam and Swathi Muthu in Kannada, "though every film of mine is close to my heart.
